The location picker appears on Person entries (for place of birth and place of death) and on Place entries (for geographic location). It lets you browse, search, and select any location in ChroniclePress’s location hierarchy — from country level all the way down to an individual city or town.
Opening the picker #
Click anywhere on the location field (the button that shows either a location name or Set location…). A small panel will open just below the field.
Browsing locations #
When the picker first opens, it shows a list of countries. Click a country to step into it and see its states or provinces. Click a state to step into it and see its counties. Click a county to step into it and see its cities and towns.
At each level, you can either:
- Select the location you’re looking at by clicking the small circle on the left side of a location’s row. This records that level as the location (useful if you know someone was born in a particular county but don’t know the specific town). The picker will close and the field will update.
- Go deeper by clicking the location’s name or the arrow on the right. The picker steps into that location and shows the next level down.
The path you’ve browsed is shown at the top of the picker, so you always know where you are.
Searching #
If you know the name of the location you’re looking for, type it into the search box at the top of the picker panel. Results appear as you type. Click any result to select it and ChroniclePress will record the full path automatically.
Going back #
If you’ve drilled down too far, click the Back button at the top of the picker panel to go up one level.
Clearing a selection #
Once a location is set, a small × button appears on the right side of the location field. Click it to clear the selection and start over.
Adding a new location #
If the location you need isn’t in the list, you can add it right from the picker — no need to go to a separate admin page.
At the bottom of the picker panel, click Add new location (or the relevant level label, such as Add county / parish or Add city / town). Type the name and click Save. The new location is created and selected immediately.
Tip: Before adding a new location, try searching for it first — it may already exist under a slightly different spelling.
Editing An Existing Location #
Existing locations can be edited by clicking on Locations under ChroniclePress in the WordPress Admin Menu.
